Care & Washing
Hand Towels & Blankets
100% Cotton
Machine wash cold, tumble dry low.
Iron if you really feel you have to
Perfect for your kitchen or bathroom, my hand towels are woven from 100% cotton and are absolutely made to be used every single day. Don't save them for a special occasion! You can absolutely throw your towels and blankets in the washing machine. I recommend low temperature settings, delicate cycle, and make sure you don't include items with buttons or zippers in the same load. Don't use bleach or fabric softeners, as these will wear out the fibers faster, and fabric softeners reduce absorbency!
Table Runners & Place Mats
Cotton, Linen, and/or Hemp
Machine wash cold, delicate.
Line dry, iron on medium high.
My handwoven table runners and place mats are sturdy enough to be regular features on your table. They can be machine washed on a delicate setting, or hand washed in your sink or tub. I recommend line drying to preserve the shape and stiffness of the fabric. Iron them on medium high to flatten and remove wrinkles.
If your runner is part of the Grounded HOME collection and uses natural dyes, some fading of color is expected over time. This is part of what makes your piece unique and a living piece of our planet. To minimize fading, keep your runner out of direct sunlight and wash with sulfate free detergent.
Art Scarves & Shawls
If your scarf or shawl contains silk, mohair, alpaca or other exotic fibers it is best for them to be hand washed or dry clean only. To hand wash fill a sink or bath tub with barely warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Gently agitate the fabric with your hands, squeezing and swishing. Leave to soak for at least 10 minutes. After, gently squeeze out excess water, but DO NOT WRING as that will distort the weave and stretch the fibers. Layer the piece between two bath towels and roll into a large tube, continuing to squeeze gently. Then unroll and lay flat to finish drying. Iron on a medium-low setting.
*Mélange Shawls contain a unique combination of fibers and come with life-time care. Contact me for details.
Bags & Pouches
The handwoven portions of my bags and purses are made of 100% cotton, however many bags include details and linings in other fabrics and even leather. The best option for cleaning is to spot clean specific stains when they happen. The zippered pouches are frequently used as make-up bags, which as we all know can get dirty fast. It is possible to turn the small pouches inside out and machine wash them in a delicates bag. Do not machine dry.
