Piedmont Fibershed Yardage

I am working in partnership with the Piedmont Fibershed at their FiberLab in Burlington, NC to produce some beautiful fabric for a project for one of the board members. But to make it worth it to set the loom up we need to produce at least 30 yards of fabric! We're looking for a few people who would be interested in buying some of this truly unique fabric to help make up the minimum.

The warp is all of my remaining USA grown organic cotton from a lot I purchased back in 2020. The weft is some of the Piedmont Fibershed mill-ends linen that they rescued from mill closures. We know it is spun from European flax, but haven't been able to track its history further. This yardage will be woven by yours truly on the air-powered industrial dobby looms in the new textile maker space as a proof of concept to show how the FiberLab can bring artisans together with technology and equipment.

The fabric will be a medium to light weight, with a light drape and a crisp hand. The yarn is undyed and will result in a lightly cream-colored fabric, perfect for natural dyeing -- that's what we plan to do with it!

The fabric will be ready by mid-August. If you would like to reserve some of this very special fabric by the yard, please contact me through the form below. The following details outline the costs and timeline, but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! You are welcome to come visit the FiberLab to feel samples, though I am unable to mail any at this time.

Reserve Your Yards

We have orders for 24yds out of the 30 needed to meet the minimum, so we just need 1 or 2 more people!

You can reserve yards of this fabric by emailing me and letting me know how many yards you would like to purchase. Your order must be a whole number, no half yards (sorry!) Please only reserve your yards if you are serious about purchasing. If you are unsure about exactly how many yards you'd like, underestimate for now and you can increase the amount you want after we've confirmed that we have reached our minimum. We will be able to confirm whether or not we've reached our minimum by July 1st and will ask that you pay a 50% deposit on the fabric by July 7th.
